The Sudbury Aqueduct in Sherborn and Wellesley, MA. May, 2003
|
Here are two structures on the historic Sudbury Aqueduct in Massachusetts. No longer in service, it originally brought water to Boston from the Sudbury Reservoir in Marlborough/Southborough. It runs through Framingham, Sherborn, Natick, Wellesley, Needham, and Newton on its way to the Chestnut Hill reservoir in Boston.
(Google "Echo Bridge" Aqueduct for information on a very interesting bridge that's part of the Sudbury Aqueduct on the border between Needham and Newton.) Here, I have pictures of two buildings on the aqueduct: one in Sherborn near the Natick and Framingham town lines; the second in Wellesley that's a head house for what's known as an "inverted siphon". As the saying goes, "they don't make 'em like that any more". |
